Matthew 22:37-39

Soul Sessions

These will offer you time to reflect on what you have learned as well as 1:1 emotional discipleship sessions with your group leader

What you can expect:

The school is committed to helping you learn and practice how to take care of your own heart. As there is an emphasis on emotional discipleship, you will be divided up into Cultivate Groups - smaller groups of 3 Students and 1 group Leader – which will be your community throughout the school. Groups are offered as female only, male only and mixed format. Head sessions will take place in the whole group, while Heart and Soul sessions will take place in your Cultivate groups. The school will end with a 1.5 day Retreat.

  • Weekly reflections and debrief sessions in a small group setting

  • Weekly teachings on mental health by members of Life Church Bath and guest speakers

  • 1:1 emotional discipleship sessions with your group leader during breaks

  • To learn and practice strategies that will help you partner with God in your emotional journey and help facilitate a deeper connection with God, yourself and others

  • To gain a fresh view on your emotional and mental health from a Kingdom perspective

  • To learn and practice how to form new friendships with authenticity and intentionality

  • To be part of a group environment that is safe, respectful and compassionate

What we expect of you:

We are looking for applicants who are willing to be stretched and transformed by engaging in the work it takes to allow for emotional growth and healing to take place. We cannot want you to grow as a person more than you do!

  • An overall commitment to choosing the way of Jesus

  • A desire to learn and allowing yourself to make mistakes

  • A respect and honesty towards yourself and others

  • A vulnerability and patience when engaging in the process (healing is often accompanied by discomfort)

Few Christians make the connection between love of Self and love of others. Sadly, many believe that taking care of themselves is a sin, a ‘psychologizing’ of the gospel taken from our self-centred culture.

The Retreat

The Retreat will always be held over 1.5 days at the end of Term 3 to complete each heart school. The Retreat includes a combination of worship, teaching, community and activity. This sacred time and space is set apart for Students to encounter the Father in community and aims to provide inspiration for living life from the heart.

What you can expect:

  • To engage more deeply with practical tools from the heart school in a community environment

  • To receive from special guest speakers who each carry unique wisdom around emotional and mental well-being

  • To partake in a ceremonial marking of an ending and a new beginning

  • To engage in worship through singing, praying and communal meals
